How Much Does Gray Water Damage Cleanup Cost?
At Keystone Restoration’s 2026 rates, gray water jobs in Salt Lake County come to about $3,600–$5,100 for a kitchen or laundry room. Gray water (IICRC Category 2) carries some contamination, like the discharge from a washing machine or dishwasher, or a toilet overflow without waste. It costs more than clean water because it needs more cleaning and wet carpet usually can’t be saved.
These are estimates based on our standard rates, not a quote. Your price depends on what we find on site. Moisture inspection is free.

Why gray water costs more than clean water
Gray water contains detergents, food residue and bacteria. Carpet that’s soaked by it generally has to be removed instead of dried in place, and every surface gets cleaned and treated with antimicrobial. Left for more than 48 hours, gray water can become Category 3, which is the sewage price tier.

FAQ
Is a washing machine overflow covered by insurance?
Usually, if it was sudden. A slow leak that went on for weeks often isn’t. Call your insurer and document everything before cleanup starts.
Can I clean it up myself?
Small spills on hard floors, yes, if you dry it fast. If water reached carpet, under flooring or into walls, it needs professional drying and moisture readings to confirm it’s actually dry.
